World Class Educator Returns to Alma Mater

Maria Velarde Grau Bove Ed. D. has returned to College of St. Joseph after many years to lead its Education Division as Chairperson. Her appointment will begin July 1, 2009. Bove has had extensive international and national experience in education and is known for her expertise in inclusive education and educational leadership.
Bove graduated from the College of St. Joseph with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Special Education and immediately went on to earn a Master of Education from Boston College with a concentration in Special Education. After working in the field, she joined the College of St. Joseph Education faculty. After several years, she was promoted to Chairwoman of the Education Division. During this time, she successfully completed and received a number of federal grants to support Special Education at CSJ. In 1987 Maria received her Doctor of Education from the University of Vermont in Education Administration and Leadership. She also has a Certificate of Advance Graduate Studies from the University of Vermont in Administration and Planning in Education.
Bove is fluent in both English and Spanish and has served as an international professor, trainer, and systems change consultant in the areas of Inclusion and Low Incidence or Intensive Education. She has worked in Latin American countries including Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Panama, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina and Brazil. In the United States, Dr. Bove has also taught at numerous colleges and universities including Castleton State College, Green Mountain College, the University of Vermont and San Jose State University in California. In addition, she has also worked for a number of international Universities which include Universidad de Zaragoza, Spain; Universidad Metropolitana, Chile; Cabred Universidad, Argentina; Mackenzie University, Sao Paulo, Brazil; and Universidad Interamericana, San Jose Costa Rica.
