Nurses complete Lyndon State/Castleton State program

At the pinning ceremony at Castleton State College in May, eight Lyndon State nurses who completed the joint nursing program received their pins. Pins have been presented to new nurses since the Renaissance and earlier as a welcome to the profession and to note the school from which they graduated.
Pinned at the May 15 ceremony were Valerie Lemieux (St. Johnsbury), Allison Shelp (Island Pond), Donna Dolan (Orleans), Deb Leduc (Lyndonville), Hilary Lanza (White River Jct.), Danielle Ball (Lyndonville) and Rebecca Braley (Concord) and Katherine Walters (Sutton). Awards were also present at the ceremony. Braley graduated with honors and also received a B.A. in Business Administration at LSC commencement May 17. Dolan was recipient of the Kathryn Murphy/Patricia Lyng Memorial Award, Lemieux graduated with honors and was recipient of the Service Learning Award, Shelp graduated with honors and was recipient of the John Kascenska Award and Walters graduated with honors and was recipient of the Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital Award.
Next fall, the nursing program will open in partnership with Vermont Technical College. As in the past, students will do all their work at Lyndon State, with an on-site coordinator and VTC classes delivered by way of Vermont Interactive Television. Clinical work takes place at area hospitals and health centers
