Champlain professor recognized by national cpa organization

Nicole Morris, Assistant Professor of Accounting at Champlain College, has been selected as one of twenty eight Certified Public Accountants, nationally, to attend the American Institute of Certified Public Accountant’s AICPA Leadership Academy. The AICPA is the trade organization for the CPA profession, and Morris was selected to attend from a pool of highly qualified nominees from across the country. The Leadership Academy is held in Chicago on July 7-9.
According to AICPA Chairman Ernie Almote, “The AICPA takes very seriously its charge to help the profession continue meeting its responsibility to the public. To accomplish that mission, we have decided to identify and develop people who not only have superior technical skills but also have the ability to shape our future. The professionals we’ve selected have that potential.” CPAs under the age of 35, with at least three years of professional experience, are eligible for nomination. Deb Riley, Executive Director of the Vermont Society of Certified Public Accountants, notes that, “Nicole’s selection to attend this important session is a tribute to her impressive achievements, both in the public and private sectors. Being chosen as one of only twenty eight attendees is remarkable, and we’re proud that Vermont CPAs will have a representative at the Academy this year.”
Morris has an undergraduate degree from Siena College and obtained her MBA from Marist College. Currently she teaches full-time at Champlain College at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Prior to joining Champlain, she was auditor for KPMG, controller for Vermont Federal Credit Union, and held several finance positions at GE Healthcare (formerly IDX Systems Corporation). She lives in Williston with her husband and their three children.
The Montpelier-based Vermont Society of Certified Public Accountants (VSCPA) was first incorporated in 1933, and is a 501(C) 6 registered not-for-profit. Today, the VSCPA’s 700+ members – representing over 90% of all CPAs in Vermont – work in public practice, business and industry, government and education. The VSCPA’s mission is to promote, protect, and represent the interests of its members and the profession while fostering the highest ethical standards. To learn more visit: www.vtcpa.org.
