The Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce today announced a new business pitch competition ‘ LaunchVT.’ LaunchVT will award cash prizes to young entrepreneurs who deliver plans for a new business enterprise that demonstrates exceptional potential in today’ s market. One of Vermont’ s best assets is its bright, energetic young professionals and through this competition participants will build a foundation for their business and the future of our state’ s economy.
Chamber President Tom Torti commented that ‘ the Chamber is putting our resources behind this program because we, and our members, believe that we need to grow the next set of successful entrepreneurs here in Vermont in order to keep our economy vibrant. This competition will spur that kind of activity.’
Vermont’ s Secretary of Administration Jeb Spaulding affirmed Governor Shumlin’ s support for the effort, saying ‘ Vermont has a great entrepreneurial community. As we work to keep young professionals here, helping them access that community and giving them the tools to start companies and create jobs is a good thing for them and a good thing for Vermont.’
Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger pledged the city’ s support for getting LaunchVT off the ground as host of the LaunchVT kickoff at City Hall on February 13th. Mayor Weinberger added: ‘ Too often I have seen talented, energetic young Burlingtonians forced to leave Vermont because they cannot find opportunities here. I applaud the Chamber’ s effort to grow the ecosystem of the creative economy through this competition.’
LaunchVT will provide opportunities for young entrepreneurs to:
‘¢ Develop their business concept while working with a mentor to hone their business plan
‘¢ Defend their plan in front of seasoned business owners and investors
‘¢ Compete against other entrepreneurs for a chance to win a package including start-up funds for their new business
Persons interested in competing and members of the media are welcome to attend the LaunchVT Kickoff on Wednesday, February 13th at 5:30 pm at Contois Auditorium in Burlington’ s City Hall. The Kickoff will be an opportunity for potential contestants to meet the sponsors and learn more about the competition.
