Welch campaign raises over $550,000 for Senate race

Campaign reports over $2.5 Million Cash on Hand

Vermont Business Magazine US Representative Peter Welch’s campaign for Senate closed the books at the end of the December 31 reporting period with over $2.5 million cash on hand according to a report filed Monday with the Federal Election Commission (FEC).

The campaign received more than 1,200 contributions – including donations from all 14 Vermont counties, 48 states and Washington D.C. – and raised $550,022 in the six weeks following the campaign's launch on November 22.

Educator was the most common occupation among online contributors to Welch’s campaign and the most frequent online donation amount was $5.

The report is just the latest sign of momentum for Welch’s campaign, having received a surge of endorsements in January. In addition to the endorsements of Reps. Adam Schiff (CA-28), Jamie Raskin (MD-8), Karen Bass (CA-37), Joaquin Castro (TX-20), Terri Sewell (AL-7), David Cicilline (RI-01), Madeleine Dean (PA-04), and Stacey Plaskett (VI-AL) – all leaders in the fight to protect voting rights and our democracy – the campaign announced the endorsement of 700 citizen supporters and from End Citizens United // Let America Vote, indicating strong grassroots support for Welch’s candidacy. On January 15th, the campaign held a virtual organizing kickoff attended by over 200 Vermonters, including U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

“This campaign is about empowering all Vermonters and creating space for their voices to be heard. That’s why we are focused on building a grassroots team,” said Campaign Manager Ryan McLaren. “The fact that we’re seeing support from across the country shows that people understand the role Vermont will play in maintaining a Democratic majority in the Senate. We need a Senate that supports working people, and will address the urgent moment we are in. The stakes are high. We are just getting started and are excited for the work ahead.”
