Vermont Business Magazine Vermont Lake Monsters fans will be cheering on the starting pitcher at every home game to see how fast he can throw and how much cash a lucky CHAMP’s Kids Club member will get in a 529 college savings plan. Vermont Student Assistance Corp is teaming up with the Lake Monsters to help families get a start on saving for education and training after high school. How much VSAC will deposit into a 529 college savings account will depend on how fast the first pitch is – say it’s 92 mph, then a lucky CHAMP’s Kids Club member will get $92.
“No wonder fans will be rooting for the pitcher’s first throw. There’s money riding on it!” said Scott Giles, president and CEO of VSAC, which administers Vermont’s official 529 college savings plan. “We want to provide families with a college savings plan that is affordable, accessible and flexible. Every dollar saved is a dollar you don’t have to borrow.”
As the official sponsor of CHAMP’s Kids Club, VSAC also will be on hand at all CHAMP’s Kids Club games and Outstanding Student Nights this summer, with special activities and more chances to enter to win a $100 college savings account.
Vermont’s 529 college savings plan, called the Vermont Higher Education Investment Plan, helps families put a child’s college education within reach. With VHEIP, you can open an account with just $25 orgive a gift of any amount. And as you contribute to aVermont 529 account, you can benefit with tax advantages and a Vermont state income tax credit on savings for education or training after high school.
Giles said families that open college savings accounts – even with just $25 to start – create opportunities for their children’s future. “The best time for parents to start saving for college and other career training is now. The earlier you start, the more your investment can build over time.”
