Vermont Business MagazineThe Executive Board for New Leaders Council Vermont (NLC VT) has announced that Ben Cohen, Co-founder of Ben & Jerry’s Homemade and local progressive advocate, will be the keynote speaker for the organization’s official launch party Leaders & Libations.
On Tuesday, June 26th the NLC VT Executive Board, supporters and community members will gather at Nectar’s in Burlington (188 Main Street) from 6-8:30pm to celebrate the launch of the newly formed non-profit organization. Progressive advocate Ben Cohen, Co-founder of Ben & Jerry’s, and NLC VT Founding Director and Winooski City Councilor Eric Covey will be featured as speakers, alongside other community leaders including Hal Colston, who also serves on the Winooski City Council and is the Director of the Partnership for Change, and Morgan Webster, Director of Common Good Vermont. There will be live entertainment from DJ cRAIG mITCHELL (a.k.a. oLIVERtWISTED) who is a member of the NLC VT Executive Board, and free Ben & Jerry’s ice cream scoops.
Leaders & Libations is free and open to the public, thanks to the support of numerous event sponsors and contributors. Event space has been generously provided by Nectar’s.
“Now, more than ever, we need to invest in our emerging leaders by providing the training and skill development necessary for them to be successful impacting lasting progressive change in our communities” said Eric Covey. “We’re excited to kick-off this initiative at Nectar’s on June 26th, and I urge Vermonters interested in learning more or supporting our work to join us for libations and ice cream!”
Ben Cohen said, “these young people are not ‘waiting on the world to change.’ They are making change happen, because they realize that we are the people we’ve been waiting for. I am proud and encouraged to work with them for a more a just society that values people over profits.”

NLC VT is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, non-partisan training organization dedicated to recruiting, training and promoting emerging leaders. Annually NLC VT will provide a free six-month training intensive for civic, social and political leaders to develop and strengthen core leadership traits, network with other next-gen changemakers, and gain additional skills to impact their individual and collective work.
Applications are now open for the NLC VT inaugural 2019 class.
