Vermont State Police On July 13th, 2018 at approximately 0015 hours Troopers with Vermont State Police St Albans were notified of a 911 call from a camper at Grand Isle State Park who advised that she could hear a person trying to break into her vehicle parked outside the tent that she was sleeping in with her three children.Responding Troopers were notified while in route that the alleged perpetrator had entered the camper's tent but subsequently fled after the camper defended herself and her children.
Upon Troopers' arrival and subsequent investigation, it was found that the perpetrator had successfully broken into a vehicle parked at the victim's campsite. While continuing with the on-scene investigation Troopers were notified of a second 911 call from another camper who advised that they were chasing a man off of their campsite after he appeared out of the woods screaming and cursing.
Troopers located the male, identified as Richard Myers (age 40) of Newport, VT by the main entrance to Grand Isle State Park. Myers momentarily resisted arrest but was immediately subdued by Troopers and taken into custody.
Myers was transported to the St. Albans State Police Barracks for processing and ultimately lodged at Northwest State Correctional Facility for lack of $10,000 bail, per order of the court. He is due to appear before Grand Isle County Superior Court on July 13th, 2018 to answer the aforementioned charges.
