Mobile Medical International Corporation (MMIC)

The 1981 Omnibus Reconciliation Act provided the catalyst for Rick Cochran’s conception of the first Mobile Surgery Unit™ (MSU). The Act allowed surgeons the opportunity for a new revenue stream by providing facility fee reimbursement through Medicare for services performed in physician-owned Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs) in addition to a physician fee. Justification for building ASCs was predicated on physician caseload volume which was a difficult hurdle for many physicians to overcome.
