Sara Holbrook Community Center names new board member

Leisa Pollander, Executive Director of Sara Holbrook Community Center, is happy to announce that Karen Bresnahan, Real Estate Associate at Lang McLaughry Real Estate, has been appointed to the organization’s board of directors.

“Karen’s knowledge and experience in community and economic development, her extensive fundraising work, and her passion for helping the populations we serve, make her a perfect addition to our Board. We are very excited to add her positive energy, compassionate spirit, and breadth of knowledge to our team,” states Pollander.

Before joining Lang McLaughry Real Estate in 2012, Bresnahan was Champlain Valley Expositions’ Director of Development, and from 2004 to 2010, she led as executive director the extensive downtown development project planning group - St. Albans For the Future (SAFF). Bresnahan’s community service work includes volunteering for United Way of Chittenden County, Meals on Wheels, the Northwest Vermont Board of Realtors, and Sara Holbrook Community Center.

The Sara Holbrook Community Center was established in 1937 by University of Vermont clinical psychologist, Sara Holbrook. Since its inception, the Center has been providing support and programs for low-income children and their families. Annually, 4000 individuals, including refugees and immigrants, take part in the Center’s programs: preschool, after school care for elementary school students, elementary school-age summer camp, teen drop-in, youth adventure camp, year-round middle school enrichment classes, English classes for adults and children, and emergency food assistance. The Center has two locations- 66 North Ave in the Old North End of Burlington and 130 Gosse Court in the New North End of Burlington. All the Center's programs are free or low-cost.
