Local Motion is excited to announce the selection of Karen Yacos as its new Executive Director. Karen will oversee Local Motion’s continued growth into a statewide organization as well as its work to ensure that walking and biking in Vermont is safe, accessible and enjoyable for everyone. Yacos comes to Local Motion with extensive professional experience focusing on creating livable communities and healthy ecosystems, most recently as Director of the Water Program at Ceres, an environmental sustainability non-profit in Boston.

"I am delighted that Karen Yacos has agreed to lead our organization,” said Eric Hart, President of the Local Motion Board of Directors. “She has the skills and passion to make Vermont better through biking and walking, has extensive leadership experience, and understands how healthy communities grow and thrive.

Karen begins her tenure as Executive Director by attending the National Walk/Bike Summit in Washington D.C. where she will be diving head-first into the issues, concerns and successes of the walk/bike community nationwide.

"I'm thrilled to join Local Motion and to lead the organization's efforts to make biking and walking safe, accessible and fun at a time when people's interest is growing here in Vermont, and nationally. I'm excited to be involved with an organization that is working so hard to have on-the-ground impact in the place that I call home." You can contact Karen at karen@localmotion.org.
