  • “Rotary clubs have been serving the needs of communities worldwide since 1905,” stated Lindel James Montpelier Rotary Club President. “Our rotary club is pleased to honor a member of our community, Corrine Sheridan, who has been serving the needs of the Montpelier community for nearly 60 years.” Corrine was named Montpelier Rotary Club 2013 Distinguished Citizen of the Year at a recent Rotary Club luncheon.

  • Kristin Gilbert, RN, of Associates in Pediatrics – Barre has been recognized as Vermont’s 2013 Childhood Immunization Champion by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC). When asked how she felt about this honor, Gilbert replied: “It’s my job.”

  • Joel Najman, host of the rock and roll music and history program My Place on Vermont Public Radio, has been honored in a resolution by the Vermont Legislature.
    The Legislature congratulated him on 30 years as “Vermont Public Radio’s rock and roll impresario.”
    The resolution was read in the House Chamber on Wednesday, April 24, in a surprise event for Najman. Rep. Leigh Dakin of Chester, who introduced the resolution, said she and her husband have been listening to My Place for many years.

  • Hanifah Presley, a student at Southern Vermont College (SVC), received the Engaged Student Award from Vermont Campus Campact (VCC) at the 2013 Engaged Campus Forum. VCC is a consortium of Vermont’s colleges and universities committed to civic engagement. The recognition reception and ceremony was held on April 12 at the Sheraton in Burlington, Vt.

  • Joan Wagner of South Burlington is the key person facilitating community-engaged learning on the Saint Michael's College campus. She was recognized for her role in integrating service and community engagement into the Saint Michael’s curriculum by winning the top award at the Vermont Campus Compact Engaged Campus Forum held April 12th at the Sheraton Hotel & Conference Center.

  • Josh Badger is very glad he had his children memorize their home address and taught them how to call 9-1-1 in an emergency. When Josh suffered a seizure and injured his head, his well-prepared offspring, Chelsie, 8, Clay, 10, and Cole, 11, acted promptly, calmly, and with maturity beyond their years to summon help for their dad. Chelsie and Cole secured the family’s dogs and took turns staying with their father, while Clay called 9-1-1.

  • National Volunteer Week celebrates ordinary people doing extraordinary things to improve communities across the nation. This one week highlights the enormous contributions that volunteers make every day. The volunteers at North Country Hospital are anything but ordinary! They show up rain or shine and work tirelessly to serve the patients and visitors in a multitude of different jobs.

  • Vermont State College Chancellor, Tim Donovan, made a surprise announcement during Lyndon State College’s Regional Business and Education Summit on April 18 when he unveiled a multi-phase program committed to creating a new workforce education system in the Northeast Kingdom intended to become a model for the rest of the state.

  • Thomas (Toby) J. Hirchak, III and Tyler B. Hirchak, vice presidents of Thomas Hirchak Company, recently completed their second year of courses at the prestigious Certified Auctioneers Institute (CAI) located at Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind. The CAI program is the industry’s premier training program developed by the National Auctioneers Association (NAA) for auction professionals.

  • Martha Maksym, Executive Director of United Way of Chittenden County has announced that Bobbe Maynes, the organization’s Communications Director is retiring after joining UWCC seven years ago at the very beginning of the transformation to become a community impact United Way. In addition to her communications role, Maynes served as the Director of Development for four of the seven years, leading the resource development staff and volunteers.
