NEFCU Shred Fests destroy 35 tons of documents
Each year, New England Federal Credit Union (NEFCU) hosts three free, open-to-the-public Shred Fest events at its main branch in Williston. The Shred Fests’ goal is to help people protect themselves against identity theft by destroying documents containing sensitive financial information. Final figures for 2012 reveal that 35 tons of documents were destroyed during the events in spring, summer, and fall. In addition, 124 computer hard drives were destroyed.
“That’s 70,000 pounds of documents that will not fall into the wrong hands,” noted John Dwyer, NEFCU President and CEO. “We’re very pleased to be able to help our community at large enjoy greater financial security with Shred Fests.”
