Wild & Scenic Film Festival to Commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the Clean Water Act, November 15 in Burlington
Montpelier – Patagonia Burlington and the Vermont Natural Resources Council (VNRC) are hosting the fifth annual Wild & Scenic Film Festival this fall, with a special celebration of the 40th anniversary of the passage of the Clean Water Act.
The film festival, to be held on November 15 at the Main Street Landing’s Film House in Burlington, will feature more than 10 award-winning, adventure-based and water-inspired short films from around the world, including “Marion Stoddart: the Work of 1,000” that chronicles the history of the work that pioneered U.S. water legislation and the woman who made it happen.
“We've really come a long way in 40 years. But along with our big victories we have also realized threats that weren’t on the radar four decades ago, things like dams and agricultural impacts,” said Kim Greenwood, VNRC’s Water Program Director. “At the festival, we’ll talk about some of those victories in Vermont and what VNRC is doing to tackle the water issues of today and how citizen participation really influences the outcomes.”
The festival has attracted more than 200 attendees in past years. In addition to learning about VNRC’s environmental initiatives in Vermont, the event features inspiring films and a fun, festival-like atmosphere with food catered by the Skinny Pancake as well as a terrific silent auction and raffle.
“I love supporting VNRC by hosting this film festival each year,” said Melinda Moulton, CEO the Main Street Landing Company. “The films are inspiring and it’s an all around fun event that benefits our collective goals for an environmental and socially conscious Vermont.”
VNRC is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and looks forward to commemorating another benchmark – the Clean Water Act turning 40 – at the Wild & Scenic Film Festival.
