Tom McKeown joins the Vermont Health CO-OP as chief operating officer

The Vermont Health CO-OP is pleased to announce that Tom McKeown of Burlington has joined the organization as Chief Operating Officer. He joins CEO Christine Oliver, CIO Chad Somerset and Director of Finance Tara Banks on the senior management team of the new member-owned health insurance company.

“Tombrings a wealth of experience in business development,risk management,and operations that are critical in our start-up phase,” said CO-OP CEO Christine Oliver.“He’s been focused on developing services for the small business community in Vermont for a dozen years, and that’s another benefit as we reach out to enroll individuals and small businesses in the Health Insurance Exchange in 2013.” Mr. McKeown was recently the Executive Director of Business Resource Services, an association providing a range of services to Vermont businesses. Hewas responsible for all aspects of product development, sales,marketing,and operations. He has been a Director for numerous consulting firms, and prior to that has held leadership roles in the money management industry in Bostonwith Putnam Investments and Brown Brothers Harriman & Co.

“The Vermont Health CO-OP will play a crucial role in delivering the type of reform envisioned by the Affordable Care Act. It is an exciting opportunity for me to be able to draw from my broad range of work experiences and help build a member-centric organization that will be a meaningfully different option on the Exchange. I’m also excited to be working with the 22CO-OPs in other states that are also starting up right now. There are a lot of talented people in this movement nationally, as well as here in Vermont, committed to the new member-ownership modelfor a health plan.”

Mr. McKeown received an MBA from the Boston University Graduate School of Management, and a BS in Business Administration from State University of New York at Fredonia. He is an active member ofthe Burlington Rugby Club both on the field and supporting their community charitable efforts. He has also coached soccer for numerous local
organizations.
