Fri Jun 22 2012

DMV Express, through which Vermont auto, boat and snowmobile owners renew their vehicle registrations, issued its one-millionth online renewal this week. Between 700,000 and 800,000 vehicle registration renewals are transacted annually, with nearly 30 percent occurring through the online service, which allows Vermont vehicle owners to enjoy the convenience of doing business with the Vermont DMV from the comfort of their homes.

DMV Express is hugely popular with Vermonters, and we think that this benchmark is just the beginning as more citizens become accustomed to using online services to conduct business with the state,” said Commissioner Robert Ide.

Launched in 2005 by the state’s e-government partner Vermont Information ConsortiumDMV Express had about 100,000 users in its first year and has grown steadily, with over 200,000 citizens expected to use the service in 2012. Accessible online 24/7 athttps://secure.vermont.gov/dmv/express, via IVR (phone) and card swiper kiosks, DMV Express allows Vermont citizens and businesses to perform motor vehicle transactions at any time, day or night. The service has securely processed over $66 million in registration payments since 2005.

Additional online services provided by the Vermont DMV include license reinstatements at https://secure.vermont.gov/DMV/reinstatement/ , online 72-hour truck permitting athttps://secure.vermont.gov/DMV/irp/, and the Municipal Highways & Bridges Weight Limits service, whose public search site can be found at http://dmv.vermont.gov/municipal-highways-bridges. These services were built for the DMV at no cost to Vermont taxpayers through a unique self-funded model with Vermont Information Consortium.
