Community Capital of Vermont receives $20,000 from Create Jobs for USA fund
Community Capital of Vermont has been awarded a grant of $20,000 from the Starbuck's Create Jobs for USA fund. The grant is focused on creating and sustaining jobs in Vermont. Singled out as a "top-tier community development financial institution," Community Capital's work with low-income borrowers is being recognized as an engine for building wealth throughout the state.
Community Capital is investing the grant in the Next Chapter Bookstore in Barre. Cynthia Dupre, the owner of Next Chapter, and we are honored to be featured in a Starbuck's sponsored video. We encourage you to watch this inspiring story and forward the link to others. (Click here to see the video.) Our very own Josh Jermone is quite the star!
Opening a bookstore in the digital age, in an economically challenged community, shut Cynthia out of a conventional bank loan. So she came to Community Capital.
We know that lending to people like Cynthia, who have the vision and determination, has a ripple effect throughout a community because businesses depend on each other. As Josh mentions in the video, "If we continue to fund these small businesses it will increase economic activity and stimulate the economy."
The Create Jobs' grant, and the recognition that comes with it, helps us continue to support people like Cynthia who are taking risks and creating jobs.
