Sanders to outline progressive foreign policy at Westminster College

Vermont Business Magazine Where Winston Churchill gave his "Iron Curtain" speech, US Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) will deliver the Green Foundation Lecture Thursday at Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri. Sanders will lay out his vision of a progressive American foreign policy, one that defines power and leadership not primarily through the use of force but through the building and mobilization of international consensus, that prioritizes human dignity and well-being against the depredations of unaccountable government and corporate power, and that sees new opportunities for cooperation around shared challenges like climate change, authoritarianism, wealth inequality and terrorism.

The Green Foundation Lectureseries has brought an impressiveprocession of illustrious world leaders to Westminster to deliver significant addresses. Sir Winston Churchill delivered his "Sinews of Peace" speech, more commonly known as the "Iron Curtain" speech, as a part of the lecture series in 1946.

"The Green Foundation Lecturerepresents all that is good about Westminster College and our nation's roleinengagingthe world as Winston Churchill did here in 1946," said Dr. Kurt Jefferson, Director ofthe Churchill Institute for Global Engagement, the office at Westminster that is in charge of the lecture series. "Itis one of the marker events in American higher learning today. Senator Sanders will now leave his stamp on post-Cold War history with his thoughts on American foreign policy today."
