Vermont Business Magazine This past spring UCS was awarded a $1.2 million grant in order to expand education and child care services to children in Bennington County. The grant allowed for the addition of an Early Head Start Program. Head Start and Early Head Start of Bennington County provide high quality care for working families.In celebration, Head Start/ Early Head Start of Bennington County hosted an open house at their new facility located at 59 River Road in North Bennington, VT on October 11. The new building holds three classrooms, two for Early Head Start and one for Pre-K.
Over 50 people attended the celebration. Guest speakers included government officials, parents, grandparents, and staff, who were all very excited about the program. Tiffany Dunican, Head Start Parent and Staff Member, said “It was very hard to find quality care for my infant son. If it had not been for Early Head Start I might not have been able to go back to work.”
Sheila Reed, Outreach Representative from the Office of Senator Bernie Sanders reiterated how important programs like these are for Vermont. “Good child care is hard to find and parents don’t want to spend their day questioning if their child is safe. Programs like this give parents an ease of mind and the ability to re-join the workforce.”
