Middlebury area properties team up to offer winter stay & play packages

Vermont Business MagazineAddison County, an 800-square mile county nestled between the Green Mountains and Adirondacks, is primed to become a winter recreation destination rivaling some of Vermont’s better-known ski towns. Just outside of Middlebury, Vermont, on Scenic Route 125, are two world-class Alpine and Nordic ski areas—Middlebury Snow Bowl and Rikert Nordic Center. Last year the Middlebury Snow Bowl was named one of North America’s 13 quirkiest ski spots by National Geographic.

The Winter Fun Inn Vermont Stay & Play Package allows guests to use either skiing facility, even on the same day, and then stay at one of six Vermont inns or cabins. The six participating lodging properties include the Chipman Inn and Robert Frost Mountain Cabins, both located in Ripton a few minutes away from the ski areas; Blueberry Hill Inn, located in Goshen in the midst of the Green Mountain National Forest; the Middlebury Inn and Swift House Inn, both located in downtown Middlebury, and Waybury Inn, located in East Middlebury, situated half way in between downtown and skiing.

“Guests have the choice to stay on the mountain nearer to the ski areas or in Middlebury with proximity to restaurants, theater and shopping,” said Dan Brown, co-owner of the Swift House Inn. “With more than ten options for outdoor recreation, this is the most flexible, economical and fun winter package that we’ve had for winter enthusiasts.”

The Snow Bowl and Rikert both offer snow making and groomed trails so that winter sports enthusiasts can participate in as many as ten different activities: Nordic ski classic, Nordic ski skate, back country ski, snowshoe, fatbike, alpine ski, telemark ski, snowboard, alpine touring, and glade skiing. The unique feature of the Winter Fun Inn Vermont package pass is that it can be used at either area for any of the ten sports. Guests can choose to snowshoe in the morning at Rikert and head over to the Snow Bowl that afternoon to downhill ski. One pass provides access to all activities over the course of a two-day stay, conditions permitting.
