GMP prepares for upcoming snow and ice storms

Vermont Business Magazine Green Mountain Power is preparing for a series of storms that are forecasted to hit Vermont startingFriday. Forecasters say theFridaystorm could bring 3-8” of snow, with the heaviest snowfall in Southern Vermont. Then another storm is set to impact Vermont earlySaturdaymorning with rain, freezing rain, and sleet.

“Our crews are preparing now and are ready to respond quickly to any outages from these storms,” said Kristin Carlson, GMP’s Vice President Strategic & External Affairs. “Early preparation is key to making sure we can get the lights on quickly and safely for customers.”

Safety is most important during winter storms and GMP reminds Vermonters to be careful on the roadways especially, as these storms will cause hazardous travel conditions.Sundayis forecasted to be clear, but GMP is tracking another snow storm forecasted for Christmas Day.

“Always stay clear of downed power lines and contact emergency responders immediately. We want to also make sure people are safe on the roads, as outages also happen from car accidents,” Carlson continued. “We wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season!”

Green Mountain Power will provide updates on the storm on Facebook, Twitter and to the media. Customers may report outages and get updates through GMP’s text service or app, as well as calling1-888-835-4672, or visiting GMP’s Outage Center page atwww.greenmountainpower.com.

To get the latest information on outages and restoration times, customers can sign up for text service alerts, by texting REG to 46788 or GMPVT, or signing up online atgreenmountainpower.com/textalerts. Customers can also sign up for GMP’s app to report outages with a touch of a finger at the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and search for GMP.
