Olympic Swimmers to Offer Clinic at Bennington Rec Center

Any swimmer looking to improve technique should come to the Bennington Rec Center on Friday, October 8 at 5pm. Olympians Ian Crocker and Maritza Correia will give a clinic and breathtaking up-close performances that will inspire swimmers of all ages to refine technique, and get fitter and faster.

Ian Crocker is a is a three-time Olympic champion and former world record holder in the 100 m butterfly. Crocker, who specializes in the butterfly, received five Olympic medals in his career. In addition, Crocker was the first man ever to swim under 51 seconds in the 100 meter butterfly. Crocker improved his world record of 50.98 twice, down to a time of 50.40 set at the 2005 World Aquatics Championships in Montreal, before being bested by Michael Phelps in 2009.

Maritza Correia won a gold medal swimming prelims at the 400 m free relay at the Short Course World Championships and earned an Olympic silver medal swimming prelims of the 400m free relay at the 2004 Olympic Games. Correia also won a gold medal in the 800m freestyle and two bronze medals in the medley and 400m freestyle relay as a member of the U.S. Team at the 2001 World Championships.

Keep in mind that this event is open to all teams and has limited spots - so register early. The event organizers do a great job of creating a special atmosphere and giving appropriate attention to kids aged 6 through 17.

The overall program includes High-Energy Fun in the Water, Olympians conduct Q & A with parents and kids, Souvenir Program and other free gifts, Autograph and Photograph Session.
