HazCom/ GHS Workshop
8:30 - 1 PM at the Charles Carter Business Facility in Lyndonville, VT.
The VOSHA Hazardous Communication (HAZCOM) regulation, presentation by Dan Whipple, VOSHA Compliance Assistance Specialist, which is covered in 29 CFR 1910.1200, focuses on the responsibility to provide information concerning hazardous and toxic chemicals in the workplace. Major areas of focus will cover the requirements for a written program, material safety data sheets, container labeling and employee training. In addition, information on the Vermont specific permissible exposure limit (PEL) tables will be discussed. In 2003, the United Nations (UN) adopted the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS). The GHS includes criteria for the classification of health, physical and environmental hazards, as well as specifying what information should be included on labels of hazardous chemicals as well as safety data sheets. OSHA is currently in the hearing stage of this regulatory change. This presentation will highlight the major changes including chemical labeling and MSDS’s.
