Vermont Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention 'Out of the Darkness' Community Walk

10/02/2010 - 10:00am

The Vermont Chapter of AFSP has organized a community walk which will include approximately 300 walkers for Saturday, October 2, 2010.

"As you are all aware, I personally have been touched by suicide. My son, Logan, died of suicide 6 months ago today and I am doing my best to try to prevent this from happening to other families by telling my story," said Cathy Voyer.

Location: Battery Park, Burlington Vermont

Time: 10:00 AM Kick off with Lt. Gov. Brian Dubie
10:30 AM walk begins

This walk is for the entire State of Vermont and touches many lives. I am asking you all to attend to cover this critical event to help make more people aware of the tragedy of suicide and how many people one suicide affects.

I personally have raised over $10,000 exceeding my personal goal and my teams goal. My team consists of approximately 50 people and will raise well over $15000 by the time we are done. The Vermont Chapter of AFSP had an original goal of $30,000. We have exceeded that goal already.

Suicide was the 2nd leading cause of death for youth from the ages 15-24 in the State of Vermont in 2007. The numbers continue to increase and we have to find ways to stop it.

Please do your best to attend. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at 802-595-9594, or check on the website for more information at www.afsp.org.
