Seminar on Mammography Offered at BMH

10/18/2010 - 7:00pm

On Monday, October 18th, Brattleboro Memorial Hospital surgeon Joseph Rosen, MD, will present a program called “Mammography Screening – For Whom, When, and Why?”. The program will be held in the New Brew Barry Conference Center, now located on the lower level of the main hospital in the former Physical Therapy gym (down the same hallway as the Cafeteria). Follow signs to the New Brew Barry Conference Center from the main front lobby for the easiest access.

Dr. Rosen, who is Medical Director of BMH Breast Program, will discuss breast cancer incidence rates, breast cancer mortality rates, and mammogram screenings. Also to be discussed are programs that assist the uninsured population along with initiatives being taken by BMH. There will be a review of the mammogram screening studies to date, with a focus on what we know and why there remains so much confusion, including that caused by the United States Preventive Task Force changes in recommendations for screening mammograms issued earlier this year.

Dr. Rosen is a board certified general surgeon on the BMH Medical Staff with a subspecialty in breast surgery. He received his medical training at Baylor College of Medicine and served residencies at Providence Hospital and Baystate Medical Center. Dr. Rosen has a fellowship in general surgery (Mt. Sinai Hospital) and is a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons.

Questions and discussion from the audience are encouraged. There is no cost for the program which starts at 7:00 PM, but registration is requested. Call 802-257-8877 to register.
