Gathering Requirements in Lean Times
This workshop focuses on giving project managers and business analysts the information and skills they need to help their teams deliver successfully on the organization’s strategy.
Topics include:
- Importance of Business Analysis to Projects
- Collecting and Managing Requirements
- The Role of the Project Manager in Validating Requirements
Attendees will work in teams and separately to learn the following:
- What is a Requirement?
- Attendees will be provided a list of items that could be either requirements or specifications
- Teams will determine whether each item is a requirement or a specification
- The entire class will discuss the complexities of choosing between the two
- What is Requirements Traceability?
- Attendees will be given a situation and will have to define requirements that relate to specific project objectives
- The entire class will discuss the importance of tracing requirements back to project objectives
- How do you Validate that Requirements have been met?
- Attendees will be provided with specific requirement(s)
- Attendees will be asked to identify ways to validate that the requirement has been met
- As a team, they will discuss and summarize the types of validation that will be needed for their projects
- The entire class will discuss the importance of defining criteria for validating project requirements.
- How do you Manage Stakeholder expectations?
- Attendees will be presented with various scenarios typical of projects with complex requirements
- Attendees will role play various approaches to managing expectations
- The class will discuss strategies to:
- Communicate with stakeholders when requested changes are out of scope
- Manage change requests to help the organization develop an on-going revenue stream
- Satisfy customers and successfully close projects

Tuition: Earn 8 PDUs, only $19 per PDU!
Rebate Available
A 50% rebate may be available for attendees that work or seek employment in health care, manufacturing, IT, environmental or telecommunications sectors. The State of Vermont will make the final determination as to eligibility for each individual.
