Miss Vermont competition to be held June 30 at South Burlington High School 

Essex, VT - June 14, 2012 - Miss Vermont Scholarship Organization officials announced today the sixty-eighth annual Miss Vermont Scholarship Competition will be held on June 30, 2012 at 7:00 PM.  The Miss Vermont Scholarship Organization is proud to welcome contestants from around Vermont to the competition, which will take place in at the Burlington High School Performing Arts Center,  550 Dorset Street in South Burlington, VT.

        Organization Executive Director Susan J. Lackey said she is looks forward to working with this year’s contestants. “We are excited to showcase the education and talent of the young women in this year's competition,” Lackey said.

        Contestants will compete in five phases of competition at the competition, including interview, on-stage question, talent, evening gown and fitness. During the competition, each contestant will also discuss her chosen platform, a social or community issue of concern to herself and

our society at large.

        The winner of the Miss Vermont Competition will be awarded over $7,000.00 in scholarship funds for her college or graduate school education. In addition, she will receive over $12,000.00 in prizes. Another $9,000.00 will be awarded to preliminary competition winners, runners-up and special award winners.

        During her year of service, Miss Vermont will travel across the state, speaking to government officials, business leaders, community groups and all types of citizens about her platform issue and encouraging them to become involved in her cause. She will also be eligible to compete for the Miss America title in Las Vegas, Nevada  in the first quarter of 2013.

        “I have been given many amazing opportunities to work with the citizens of Vermont during my year of service as Miss Vermont and am proud to have traveled throughout the state raising awareness for the importance of youth involvement in the political process,” Katie Levasseur, Miss Vermont 2011 said. “I know the skills I have gained from my experiences as Miss Vermont will aid me in pursuing my Political Science degree at the University of Vermont.”

Winners of the annual Miss Vermont Competition are eligible to compete in the Miss America Competition, held every year in Las Vegas, Nevada.
