VERMONT ADAPTIVE HOSTS SPECIAL CAMP FOR KIDS WITH DISABILITIES AND THEIR FAMILIES ON BURLINGTON'S WATERFRONT JULY 31 - AUG. 2
Fun-filled weekend created to develop skills while having fun with peers, family and instructors

KLLINGTON, WARREN and BOLTON, Vt. (July 8, 2009) -- Vermont Adaptive Ski & Sports, the only year-round organization in the state to offer daily programs for people with disabilities, will host a special Summer Kids & Family Camp on Burlington's waterfront July 31 - Aug. 2. The camp is designed to allow people with disabilities and their families to come together and enjoy summer activities like biking, boating, hiking, and sailing - complete with summer barbecues, treasure hunts and a special trip to the ECHO Science Center.

"Our goal is to provide a fun way for kids to meet new friends and enjoy summer activities with their families," said Dave D'Angelo, Vermont Adaptive program coordinator. "Our camp's focus is not only on the recreational and athletic skills necessary for summer sports but also on valuable life skills such as safety in the outdoors and being active and healthy. It's a great opportunity for families to meet and share experiences. The weekend kicks off with a sunset cruise on Lake Champlain Friday night and ends with an awards ceremony on Sunday. Those are the bookends of a weekend packed with endless summer fun."

The weekend event is held at the Lake Champlain Community Sailing Center and includes a welcome party and barbecue, the cruise on the lake, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, biking on Burlington's bike path, arts and crafts, bowling at Champlain Lanes, and a live animal feeding at the Echo Center.

The weekend is open to all families with participants ages 7-16. The cost is $160/participant and $130/family member.  The camp program includes all activities and BBQ on Friday night, lunch on Saturday and a pizza party Saturday night.

Space is limited and reservations are required. Camping is also available on North Beach for those who may be interested. For reservations contact Dave D'Angelo, 802.353.3178, or truenorth@vermontadaptive.org. More information is available at www.vermontadaptive.org.
