North Country Hospital Gold Tournament

Time is running out to register for the 21st Annual North Country Hospital Health Care Careers Scholarship Fund Benefit Golf Tournament. This year, the fun-filled event will be held on Sunday, August 30 at the Newport Country Club. Eighteen holes of competitive golf, dinner, door prizes and many other fun events are scheduled. The registration deadline is Saturday, August 8th.

Entry forms are available at area golf courses. For information or an entry form, please go to www.nchsi.org or call Nancy Goss at 334-3225. All entries must be received by August 8, 2009. The field will be limited to the first 36 teams in order of receipt and payment of registration fees.

Local businesses and national companies support the tournament by sponsoring a hole with their sign on it for $250. Since the fund was established in 1988, nearly 200 scholarships have been awarded to deserving candidates from this area who are pursuing careers as health care professionals. This spring the hospital was able to offer 14 new scholarships.

"The tournament is a scramble format. The scramble format works very well and makes the competition more equal among golfers of varying skill levels," explained co-chair Fran Smith. “The entry fee is $75 and that includes a golfers’ gift and delicious dinner.”

Pro shop credit will be awarded for team prizes and Mulkin Automotive will give a new vehicle to anyone getting a hole-in-one on the second hole. Additional prizes for a hole-in-one on all other par 3’s, for closest to the pin, and for the longest straight drive.
