Stratton and the American Red Cross host community blood drive

03/01/2010 - 10:00am

Stratton’s Health and Wellness committee has teamed up with the American Red Cross to host a community blood drive on Monday, March 1 at the Stratton Mountain Resort Base Lodge.

Donor hours are from 10am-3pm and anyone who is at least 17 years old and weighs at least 110lbs. may be eligible to donate. Door prizes will be given away at the event and are complements of the resort. All presenting donors will also automatically be entered in a drawing to win a pair of tickets to see the Boston Bruins take on the Carolina Hurricanes on April 10 at TD Garden.

The blood drive helps celebrate ‘Red Cross Month’ which celebrates the continued effort of the American Red Cross to provide relief to disaster victims and to ensure a safe and sufficient blood supply for patients and hospitals.

The American Red Cross holds blood drives seven days a week across Northern New England so that blood is always available for patients in need. Blood is used for patients undergoing many surgical procedures, organ transplants, trauma and chemotherapy. For some patients, such as the victim of an automobile accident, the need for blood is sudden. For others, ongoing transfusions are needed to sustain medical treatment.
