02/22/2010 - 11:00am

Leunig’s Bistro and Café will be holding a fundraiser on Monday, February 22, 2010 to benefit Mercy Connections. Mercy Connections will receive 10% of the total food and drink bill when you dine at Leunig’s anytime on February 22. Purchase a Community Partners Card and you will receive a 20% discount every time you eat at Leunig’s over the next year and Mercy Connections will receive 50% of the cost of the card.

Arising out of the legacy of Trinity College of Vermont, Mercy Connections, Inc. was founded in 2001 by the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, Regional Community of Vermont as a nonprofit educational corporation committed to extending the Mercy mission by focusing on supporting people in transition and helping them find the tools they need to make lasting changes in their lives.

Mercy Connections has three programs: Vermont Women's Mentoring Program, Women’s Small Business Program and the Education & Transition Center.

Vermont Women’s Mentoring:

The Mentoring Program provides adult-to-adult mentoring in the community. The program supports women in transition.  Mentors can have a profound influence by supporting individual women as they work to change or rebuild their lives.  Mentors and mentees are provided with training, ongoing support, and group activities.

Women’s Small Business Program (WSBP):

The mission of the Women’s Small Business Program is to foster women’s economic independence by giving them the skills needed for entrepreneurial success.  Developed in 1989 through a cooperative effort of Trinity College of Vermont and the City of Burlington’s Community and Economic Development Office, WSBP strongly believes that self-employment is a viable option for all women. Women are empowered to make informed choices for their economic well-being, and explore the possibility of business ownership in the company of other women.

Education and Transition Center:

Mercy Connections Education and Transition Center was developed in partnership with the individuals who became and are our constituents.  The Center’s formation was a process of community organizing among women and men whom we serve.  Our goal then and now is to empower our constituents to create and/or strengthen the programs and opportunities they need to reach their full human potential.  We hold community forums before each semester’s course offerings in order to determine what people want and need from our programming.

Hope to see you there on the 22nd!  If you cannot make it but you would like to purchase a Community Partner Card or gift certificate, send a check to Mercy Connections made out to “Leunigs” and we will purchase the card for you and mail it to you on that day!
