CAPITOL STEPS at the Paramount Theatre
CAPITOL STEPS to Return to the Paramount Stage
Friday, February 12th at 8:00PM
Renowned political satirists (in both word and song), CAPITOL STEPS, will return for their fifth engagement to the Paramount Theatre on Friday, February 12th 2010 at 8:00PM. The Obama Administration, Stimulus, Banking Bonuses, Health Care, Homeland Security, Sarah Palin, nude model politicians, party crashers, real paternity and mucho philandering will undoubtedly be in the scathing, rapier radar of this beloved troupe. With a new show every year, featuring all fresh material and their bracing take on scandals and scoundrels, an upside-down world, and a particularly nasty political climate; all bets are off.
CAPITOL STEPS was born in 1981 when three staffers were planning entertainment for a Christmas party hosted by Senator Charles Percy. Their initial idea was to deconstruct the nativity but they opted instead to create song parodies and skits from popular music and the news of the day, “sending up” current political hot-button issues. Their energy, intelligence and savage/biting political satire is as popular in Peoria as it is on Pennsylvania Avenue – causing them to quickly emerge as a national sensation. For years CAPITAL STEPS was performed exclusively by current and former congressional staffers. Due to popular demand and the expansion of their companies, THE STEPS have expanded their ranks to include comedians and actors. CAPITOL STEPS, now in its 29th year has recorded dozens of albums, and have appeared on "Good Morning America," the "Today Show," "20/20," "Entertainment Tonight," "Nightline," CNN's "Inside Politics and dozens of times on National Public Radio's "All Things Considered.” The Capitol Steps perform their radio special, "Politics Takes a Holiday," four times a year (New Years, April Fool's, 4th of July & Halloween) nationally on public radio.
Tickets are $25.50 to $35.50. For tickets or more information, visit www.paramountlive.org or call 802-775-0903.
