2012 VEC Water Quality Expo (March 26, Middlebury)
In partnership with the Vermont Agency of Agriculture, the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources, and the Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development, the Vermont Environmental Consortium (VEC) will hold a conference to consider what the right mix of public policy tools - including incentives, technical and financial assistance, and regulation - should be developed for addressing water pollution in Lake Champlain. The goals of the conference are to:
Bridge the growing divide between conservation proponents on the one hand and those who engage in historic land use around the Lake on the other;
Provide accurate scientific information about the current situation on Lake Champlain;
Develop a framework for a cooperative vision and set of goals and objectives to address the challenges currently facing Lake Champlain; and,
Identify a process moving forward for cooperative efforts to clean up Lake Champlain.
All parties, including leading scientists, state and government officials, academic and representatives from Vermont's important agricultural and farming community, will be attending this high-profile event.
