Burlington Emergency Shelter holds fundraising banquet
The general public is cordially invited to attend the Burlington Emergency Shelter’s Sixth Annual Fundraising Banquet to be held Friday, May 8th, 6:30 PM, at the Sheraton Hotel & Conference Center in Burlington. Several dignitaries, including Governor Jim Douglas, will be attending the event. The Burlington Emergency Shelter has been serving the homeless population of Chittenden County for more than a quarter of a century, providing shelter and meals 365 days per year for its homeless guests. Benefit for Spectrum Youth Services to be held at Higher Ground
Burlington’s First Annual Adult Prom on Saturday, May 30 from 8 pm to 1 am. The benefit is for Spectrum Youth & Family Services, to be held at Higher Ground in South Burlington. Enter on a glitzy red carpet with paparazzi and spend the evening dancing, enjoying light hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, & memorable prom photos. The Northeast Region Farm to School Conference
The Northeast Farm to School Conference will be held at Champlain College in Burlington on May 17 and 18, 2009. Vermont Feed Education Every Day (FEED), National Farm to School, and the Vermont Agency of Agriculture are hosting the conference entitled Cooking Up Connections. May 17th will consist of half day short courses on Farm to School coordination, evaluation and integration of farm and food education into curriculum as well as field trips to the Intervale, City Market and Burlington’s Community Gardens. On Monday, May 18th, participants choose from 25 workshops and panel presentations from the Northeast’s Farm to School leaders. Registration is now open online at www.shelburnefarms.org
UVM announces summer leadership institute
Collaborative Management: Leading through Partnership seminar will be held July 13th-17. The seminar will help leaders develop a broad range of skills. Northeast Citizen of the Year dinner scheduled
The dinner for Citizen of the Year recipient Dick Boera has been set for Saturday, May 9, at 7:15 PM, at the Stevens Dining Hall, Lyndon State College, Lyndon Center. Boera is being honored for his extensive service in Lyndon and St Johnsbury civic organizations. Woodworking Festival opens prize drawing
The 6th Annual Vermont Fine Furniture & Woodworking Festival just opened their 6-month drawing for six lucky winners to receive $100 each. This can be used towards the product of their choice from over 50 Vermont woodworking companies that will be exhibiting their wares on September 26-27, 2009 in Woodstock. During the monthly drawings there will be one lucky winner in each month, running from April through September. The winners will also receive two free tickets to the festival. The annual event is held at the Union Arena in Woodstock, on the Woodstock High School grounds.

Vermont Safety & Health Council Safety Roundtables have scheduled upcoming seminars. The Rutland location is taking place on Friday, June 26th from 9 AM to noon, free. Electrical Safety Work Practices & NFPA 70E Compliance, sponsored by Project Worksafe & VSHC will take place in Brattleboro: May 19th, 8:30 AM to 12 Noon; and in Williston: May 20th, 8:30 AM to 12 Noon. The 7th Annual VT Workplace Safety Conference & Governor’s Awards happens in South Burlington: May 13th, 9 AM to 3:45 PM. Combustible Dust and Tour of McNeil Wood Generating Plant -- VSHC Spring Workshop is scheduled in Burlington, June 25th, 12 Noon to 4 PM with lunch, free to VSHC members.
